Fatal mountain accident in the Titlis area

On September 18.09.2020, XNUMX, just before noon, a three-man rope team slipped on a snowfield in the Titlis area and fell into a crevice between the rocks and the glacier. One person died in the process.

On September 18.09.2020th, XNUMX, in the morning, three men in a rope team went on a mountain tour from Titlis to Reissend Nollen. To the northeast of the rear Titlisjoch one of the three climbers slipped despite crampons on a snow field and dragged the other two with him into the depths.

Two people fell on the edge of the glacier between rocks and glacier. The third man was thrown over the crevice and came to a halt on the safety rope on a steep snow slope. He was able to alert Rega immediately.

The recovery on the steep slope turned out to be very laborious. One climber in the group was seriously injured in the accident, another slightly. You were flown to a hospital. The third person could only be recovered dead. The three men are alpinists from outside the canton between the ages of 35 and 37.

The Rega operations center was alerted directly via the Rega app. On the way to the scene, the Rega crew picked up a mountain rescuer from the Swiss Alpine Club SAC to support the complex rescue operation.

In order to ensure the medical care of the patients on site, the rescue helicopter from the Wilderswil base was also deployed. In addition to the two Rega helicopters, four mountain rescuers and a helicopter from Swiss Helicopter were on duty during the time-consuming rescue operation, which lasted several hours.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the cantonal police and the Obwalden public prosecutor.
