Chris Sharma climbs his hardest DWS route to date with Black Pearl

Chris Sharma makes the first ascent of Black Pearl in Port de Sóller in the north of Mallorca. The DWS route, which the strong Spaniard has been planning for four years, is probably tougher than Alasha and Es Pontas. In doing so, he once again pushes the limits of deep water soloing to a new level.

The American climbing superstar Chris Sharma a new kingline is climbing on Mallorca: Black Pearl. On the steep cliffs of Port de Soller, where his famous lines Alasha and Big Fish are also based, he managed his most difficult deep water solo route to date. The 42-year-old designed the line again and again over four years. On November 7th he managed to climb Black Pearl.

Black Pearl: Currently the most difficult deep water solo route

Chris Sharma told Climbing Magazine that Black Pearl is a very personal goal that he has pursued over the last four years. “For me, the ascent represents progress in deep water soloing.”

The Californian does not give a specific rating for his new Kingline. However, Black Pearl can be harder than Es Pontas and Alasha, which would not only be his personally most difficult DWS route, but also the currently hardest in the world.
