At the last IFSC World Cup of the season in Xiamen won Domen Skofic (SLO) and Jessica mushroom (AUT) Gold in the Lead discipline. A top performance was also provided by the Swiss Sascha Lehmann, the 8. Rank occupied. In speed climbing the Frenchman Bassa Mawem was on the podium. The neck-and-neck race in the Nations Cup 2018 won Austria ahead of Japan.
Already before the last IFSC World Cup of the season in Xiamen, the overall winners were in the lead climbing discipline (Jakob Schubert and Janja Garnbret - LACRUX reported). The nation ranking, however, was still hotly contested. Thanks to three world championship titles, a world championship bronze medal, an overall world cup victory and a second place in the overall world cup and the ranks in the individual competitions, Austria will be the strongest climbing nation in 2018 at the end of the year.
In the discipline Speed everything was still open
In contrast to lead climbing, the season's overall victory in speed climbing was anything but clear. A total of four men's athletes fought for the season title in what is probably the most spectacular speed final of the season. In the end, the Frenchman Bassa Mawem won the race. He “flew” up the wall in less than 6 seconds in every round of the past weekend and won the final with only 2 hundredths of a second ahead of Aspar Jaelolo from Indonesia.
