The Italian climber Pietro Vidi has completed the first repetition of the boulder »Permanent Midnight Low« in the Val de Bagnes in Fionnay, Switzerland.
"Permanent Midnight" is a popular 8A+ in Fionnay. The extension of the route with a low start was first climbed in May this year by Clément Lechaptois who then suggested the grade 8C+.
The low start adds some tough moves to Permanent Midnight, using energy-sapping underhand grips, making the boulder considerably more difficult. Pietro Vidi projected the boulder over several trips and dedicated at least ten sessions to it before he topped it on August 31st.
"It feels so good to be projecting on difficult routes again," Pietro wrote on Instagram. "I've been taking a break from bouldering lately to explore other aspects of climbing, and it's nice to see I've still got it!"
It's probably my hardest boulder yet, even though it's exactly my style (pure bicep power and really bad footholds).
