Sascha Lehmann is the 2020 European champion in lead climbing

Sascha Lehmann wins the gold medal in the lead discipline at the European Sport Climbing Championships in Moscow. The 22-year-old Swiss showed a fantastic performance in the final on Wednesday evening and climbed the highest of all eight finalists. In the women's category, the Russian Viktoriia Meshkova was at the top of the podium.

After the three individual disciplines of speed, bouldering and lead, Sascha Lehmann took second place in the combined ranking. He is still in the running to secure the last ticket for the Olympic Games in 2.

After a day of rest, the qualification of the combination begins for the 20 best athletes on Friday, followed by the final on Saturday.

Further Swiss results in the lead

With Dylan Chuat, a second Swiss athlete also contested the lead competition. The 19-year-old showed a strong performance when he participated in an elite European Championship for the first time. He reached the semi-finals and climbed to 11th place.
