These six athletes secured an Olympic ticket in Toulouse

Although two Japanese athletes were in the Top 5 of the Toulouse competition, the Olympics tickets went to other athletes. The reason: Japan has already reached the quota of two Olympic athletes. The two Slovenians Mia Krampl and Lucka Rakovec offered a head-to-head race.

While it was decided in the men after the qualifying round, who receives an Olympic ticket, the women's decision for the last place in the Olympics fell in the final round. There was a showdown between the two Slovenians Mia Krampl and Lucka Rakovec.

After they were within a ranking point from each other in the speed lap, the fight between Rakovec and Krampl in the bouldering final became heated. Both athletes had all four bests in qualifying alongside Ai Mori, but now it was time to stand out from the competition. Rakovec gave everything on the first boulder and needed nine attempts to reach the top. She also topped the other two boulders. Krampl only reached a zone on the first boulder and fell back in the ranking.

In the lead final, Krampl was the first to get on the route and fell on hold 32. With seven other athletes and their results in the preliminary rounds, Krampl's Olympic ambitions did not look good. Contrary to all assumptions, however, none of the seven athletes managed to climb further than Krampl, which is why they finished third at the end of the day and thus qualified for the 2020 Olympics.
