Alex Honnold climbs the route freeriders on El Capitan free solo

We can hardly believe it. We just heard the news that Alex Honnold has climbed the freerider route on El Capitan solo.

Okey, the American Alex Honnold is known for his inspections without rope or other safety devices. But what he achieved this Saturday in Yosemite Valley surpasses everything before: He climbed the most famous wall of the valley, El Capitan, free solo. Alex climbed the route Freerider in just 3 hours and 56 minutes. The route follows logical crack lines and chimneys for 33 pitches. The German Alex Huber climbed the route freely for the first time (not free solo) in 1995. If you want to master the route in the 1000 meter high wall, you have to climb at least 7c +.

  1. Not a glorious act, but suicidal. Some stop early, others only when they're dead. Potter, Auer... And irresponsible as a father. The media shouldn't report on it.
