IFSC tightens measures: Athletes from Russia and Belarus are suspended

The International Sport Climbing Federation (IFSC) announces further measures in response to the war in Ukraine. All IFSC competitions in Russia and Belarus are suspended until further notice. All athletes and team officials from the two countries are suspended.

Already on February 25, the IFSC announced that it would be canceling the Bouldering and Speed ​​World Cup planned for April 1-3, 2022 in Moscow from the competition calendar. In its official statement of March 2, the association now announces further tightening.

The measures taken at a glance

  • Suspension of all IFSC competitions: All competitions scheduled to take place in Russia and Belarus, including the IFSC Boulder and Speed ​​World Cup in Moscow, the IFSC Youth European Cup in Kaliningrad (in accordance with IFSC Europe) and the IFSC Youth World Championships 2023, are suspended until further notice.
  • Exclusion of climbers: All Russian and Belarusian athletes and team officials are suspended from IFSC competitions. Replacements will be appointed for all Russian and Belarusian officials assigned to competitions in 2022.

In addition, the IFSC will discuss a number of other measures to be taken at the upcoming General Assembly on 18/19. March in Salt Lake City to be approved.
