Lead World Cup in Briançon 2019: results, highlights and pictures

On Friday and Saturday the third lead competition of the season took place in Briançon, France. Once again, the Korean Chaehyun Seo got the 1. Space. In the men's event there was a surprising victory by the Japanese Hidemasa Nishida. The Swiss Sascha Lehmann took the 13. Space. Christine Schranz picked for Austria with the 9. Rank the best placement.

In the third World Cup of recent weeks, some strong athletes were missing (for example, Adam Ondra, Jakob Schubert) and the semi-final round saw the departure of other athletes who started solidly into the season (Alexander Megos, Sascha Lehmann). Nevertheless, was the final exciting and filled with strong athletes.

Japanese dominance on the podium of the men

In the men's final, three Japanese, two Europeans, one American and one Canadian competed against each other. The dominance of the Asian finals was also reflected in the distribution of podiums: The Japanese distributed the ranks 1, 2 and 3 among themselves. Hidemasa Nishida won an IFSC World Cup for the first time. In second and third place followed Hiroto Shimizu and Shuta Tanaka.

Korean Rising Star

In the women's line up in Briançon, who is repeatedly in the final. After the Slovenian Janja Garnbret missed the finals in Chamonix, she was in Briançon again to the podium candidates. But also the Korean Chaehyun Seo had the 1. Place in the visir. Both athletes topped the final route, but the gold medal went to the Korean. The decision delivered their result in the preliminary rounds.
