Bern 2023: This is where the first athletes qualify for the Olympics

In 2023 the Climbing World Championships will take place in Bern. The IFSC Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships in the Swiss federal capital are the first qualifying event for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

After the Olympics is before the Olympic Games: While the common climber grapples one last time with the combined format at the debut of sport climbing in Tokyo, the athletes are looking ahead. It's still a little more than two years until the Olympics in Paris, but by then at the latest Climbing World Cup 2023 in Bern things are serious.

First qualifying opportunity for Olympic Games 2024

Those scheduled from August 1 to 12, 2023 in Bern IFSC Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships 2023 is the first competition to count as a qualifier for the following year's Olympic Games. Two sets of medals are awarded for each gender in sport climbing: in the Discipline Speed and in the new Format Boulder & Lead.

Promote sport climbing for people with and without disabilities

By hosting the largest sport climbing event in 2023, the SAC is making a statement for competitive sport. the World championships in Bern are dedicated to promoting sport climbing for people with and without disabilities. "Our claim is that inclusion and sustainability are not just empty words, but that we live them in all areas," says SAC Managing Director Daniel Marbacher.

Over a total of twelve days, the world's best climbers will compete at the IFSC Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships Bern 2023. This is what the program looks like:

  • Tuesday, August 1st, 2023: Qualification Bouldering Men
  • Wednesday, August 2, 2023: Qualification Bouldering Women
  • Thursday, August 3, 2023: Qualification Lead women and men, presentation of the athletes and opening ceremony in the city
  • Friday, August 4, 2023: Lead Semi-Finals Men, Bouldering Semi-Finals and Finals Women
  • Saturday, August 5, 2023: Lead Semi-Finals Women, Bouldering Semi-Finals and Finals Men
  • Sunday 6 August 2023: Lead Finals women and men
  • Monday, August 7th, 2023: Men's and Women's Paraclimbing qualification
  • Tuesday, August 8th, 2023: Men's and Women's Paraclimbing qualification
  • Wednesday, August 9, 2023: Semi-Finals combined women and men
  • Thursday, August 10, 2023: Finals Paraclimbing Women and Men
  • Friday 11 August 2023: Men's Combined Final
  • Saturday 12 August 2023: Women's Combined Final
