Tamara Lunger sticks to K2 summit goal

The South Tyrolean Tamara Lunger has communicated that, despite the circumstances, she wants to stick to her goal of climbing K2 in winter.

Last week, the events at the second highest peak in the world rolled over. A team of 10 Nepalese wrote mountaineering history with the first winter ascent of K2. On the same day, the Catalan alpinist Sergi Mingote fell and died of his injuries.

The 34-year-old South Tyrolean witnessed the accident.

Those are bad days here at K2. Sad and hard to take. After all, we are a good team and can give each other strength to endure the grief for Sergi. We did everything we could, but there was no longer any hope. After all, we were close.

Together with these words, Tamara Lunger published a video in which she dances and sings with Sergi Mingote.

This video makes me very sad. Not only have we all lost a strong climber, but I have lost a wonderful friend with a positive attitude and a big heart.

Recovers something positive from negative events

Due to the events, Alex Gavan left the base camp. Tamara, on the other hand, has decided to stay at K2 and to stick to her goal of doing K2 in winter.

I decided to stay at K2 because I try to discover negative events, understand and emerge stronger from them.

Tamara Lunger has announced that she will team up with Chilean Juan Pablo Mohr, with whom she has already acclimatized, for the summit attempt.
