Victory for Romain Desgranges and Janja Garnbret at the World Cup in Villars

Frenchman Romain Desgranges and Slovenian Janja Garnbret win the first lead competition of the season. In contrast to last year, the organizers had more luck with the weather. The athletes climbed on the outdoor facility in Villars, Switzerland, in the sunshine.

The first IFSC World Cup in the Lead discipline took place in Villars, Switzerland. Well-known names competed for the gold medal in Villars. In the end, Romain Desgranges and Janja Garnbret made it. In Villars there was also climbing in the speed discipline on Friday. After Reza Alipourshenazandifar set a new world record (5,48 seconds) at the competition in Nanjing, he also shone in Villar with a fabulous performance: he undercut the 6-second mark on every run of the standardized speed route.

Three Swiss women among the best 14

Switzerland was at the start with lots of women's power. The athletes Anne-Sophie Koller, Katherine Chong, Alina Ring and Michelle Hulliger convinced with their performance.
