Video about Barbara Zangerl and Jacopo Larcher at El Capitan

Last November it moved Barbara Zangerl and Jacopo Larcher to the Yosemite Valley in the United States. The two had big plans: The third ascent of Zodiac (16 SL, 8b) at El Capitan. They were successful.

Louder than 11 has accompanied the commission of the two with the necessary camera equipment. The result is a film full of beautiful pictures and a portrait of the two sympathetic climbers.

History of the first ascent and the name Zodiac

The route Zodiac was first climbed by Charlie Porter in 1972. The inspection was accompanied by curious events that prompted Charlie to name the route accordingly. On supertopo.com he is quoted as follows: “During the climb, several strange events occurred. When Porter reached the top of pitch 3 he found a dead bird “upside down with its feet in the air” and dubbed the spot accordingly. More ominously, as Porter explains, “This was at the time of the Zodiac Killer, a serial killer in San Francisco. I would go up on the wall, come down, and fi nd that he had killed again. His killings seemed to be timed with when I was on the climb. " This disturbing coincidence led to the naming of the route. So, "It was that time when everyone was running around talking about the stars."
