Ternua makes clothes from old fishing nets and dyes them with walnuts

Some brands are now writing the topic of sustainability on the flag. Very few really live it. The Basque manufacturer Ternua is completely different. For over ten years, Ternua has been actively committed to the environmentally and socially responsible production of its clothing.

Ternua means Newfoundland in Basque. It is a tribute to the courage of the Basque whalers who dared to venture north five hundred years ago. The fearlessness and the desire for discovery remain an inspiration for the Basque brand that has whaling Ternua but turned to the opposite: Already at their creation 1994 "adopted" the brand four whales on the American whale and dolphin protection organization WDC.

In the same spirit announced Ternua This year the Nutcycle line. Walnuts are a typical dessert in the Basque cider houses. Every year 55 tons of walnuts are consumed in the Basque Country. Ternua takes advantage of this tradition: In collaboration with the Swiss company Archroma, it produces paint from the resulting nutshells, which is used to dye Nutcycle clothing. This makes it possible to dispense with chemical color, which is a great burden on man and the environment in the production of clothing. The Nutcycle line will be on sale in early summer 2019.
