Last Friday, the Italian alpinist Matteo Pasquetto was killed in a fall in the Grandes Jorasses area.
Matteo Pasquetto and his two climbing partners Matteo Della Bordella and Luca Moroni were descending the Reposoir Ridge when Matteo slipped and was fatally injured in the fall. The three alpinists previously opened a new route through the east face of the Grandes Jorasses.
Young and successful on the way
Despite his young age, tomorrow would be Matteo's 26th birthday, Matteo Pasquetto mastered numerous impressive ascents. For example, during his stay in Patagonia at the beginning of the year, when he opened the route Il Dado e Tratto at the Aguja Standhardt together with Matteo Bernasconi and Matteo Della Bordella. It was only a few months ago that a good friend of Matteo Pasquetto's, Matteo Bernasconi, with whom he was in Patagonia this year, had a fatal accident on a ski tour.
