Yesterday Yosemite National Park witnessed a series of rock falls. A British couple was salvaged by the park rangers on the southeastern flank of El Capitan. For the man any help came too late. The woman was evacuated with heavy injuries from the rescue helicopter.
On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, there were seven individual rock falls. A total of around 450 cubic meters, or 1 tons of rock, loosened. The rock loosened near the popular Waterfall Route and hit a British couple who were at the foot of El Capitan. The man died at the scene of the accident while the woman was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.
