World record: Sanu Sherpa has climbed all 14 eight-thousanders twice

Last Thursday, the Nepalese mountaineer Sanu Sherpa reached his goal of climbing all eight-thousanders in the world twice with the Gasherbrum II in Pakistan. He is the first alpinist who has managed to do this so far.

Double 14 Peaks: A project spanning 17 years

Sanu Sherpa, who grew up in a remote village in eastern Nepal, hired as a porter in Kathmandu in 2005. A year later he made his debut as a mountaineer and successfully led a Korean expedition with his teammates up the Cho oyu. In the same year he climbed the Shishapangma.

From then on, as part of various commercial expeditions, he led customers from all over the world to the highest peaks in the world. In 2019 he climbed all eight-thousanders for the first time, some like that Everest or Manaslu even multiple times.

The Nepalese mountain guide had to wait another three years before completing his Double 14 Peak project. Although he set a good pace on the home straight: This year alone, Sanu Sherpa was in the lead kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Nanga Parbat and Gasherbrum III five 8000m expeditions in which he reached the summit.
