American ultrarunner sets new speed record on Manaslu

Tyler Andrews has climbed Manaslu (8163 m) in a new record time. The day before yesterday he reached the summit 9 hours and 52 minutes after starting from base camp. Fun fact: The top American runner had actually only wanted to do another acclimatization tour.

Just one day after the Seven Summit Treks Sherpa team installed the fixed ropes and cleared the way to the summit of the eighth highest mountain in the world, Tyler Andrews secured the new Fastest Known Time on the ManasluThe American ultrarunner reached the summit in the early hours of September 19th.

Unexpected summit success

According to Andrew's expedition organizer Asian Trekking, the American had not planned to challenge the record time that day, but had only planned an acclimatization round. "But since he felt fantastic when he reached Camp 4 and the weather was just perfect," Dawa Steven Sherpa told Explorersweb, "he decided to give it a try."

With his time of 9 hours and 52 minutes, Tyler Andrews beat the previous record time set by Pemba Gelje Sherpa in 2023 by more than two hours. Previously (2019), it was the Italian alpinist Franz Cazzanelli who held the Fastest Known Time on Manaslu with 13 hours.

    Time: 36 minutes, 26 seconds
