The film crew of Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, Evan Hayes and Shannon Dill won last Sunday Oscar for the documentary Free Solo about Alex Honnold's historic ascent of the Route Freerider on El Capitan.
That a climbing movie nominated for an Oscar, let alone win one would have thought of a few years ago, no one. On Sunday it was time. The movie Free Solo about the tour of the route Freerider am El Capitan im Yosemite Valley won the Oscar for Best Documentary. The film was directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy ChinEvan Hayes and Shannon Dill, who also received the Oscar.
"Holy Shit," Jimmy slips out of his mouth in front of the camera as he steps to the microphone with Elizabeth. But as befits American television, the curse word is cut out of the soundtrack.
