UPDATE: Call for review of the Edelrid Mega Jul

In November 2023, Edelrid called for a review of batch 04/20 of the Mega Jul security device. The German mountain sports equipment manufacturer is now expanding its appeal to all batches.

Edelrid is now calling on every owner of a Mega Jul, regardless of the batch, to visually check the device for any abnormalities.

Call for a review of the Edelrid Mega Jul

Background

Due to the call for inspection in this matter published on November 14.11.2023, 04, another device was identified with a defect in the replacement eyelet, which does not come from batch 20/XNUMX.

It cannot therefore be ruled out that other devices from other batches with defects are in circulation.

The defects are manufacturing-related deviations that are easily recognizable during a visual inspection, e.g. B. a crack. The changes in the metal structure are usually only superficial, but can also result in a reduction in strength.

Review

Please proceed as follows when checking: Check the surface of the metal body, especially the secondary eyelet, for deviations such as wrinkles, steps, cracks, etc.

Devices that have a step or edge at this point as shown here can continue to be used. You don't have to do anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can such a defect also arise later during use?
No. The steel used is extremely tough; after the manufacturing process, the structure can no longer be changed by mechanical influences.
  2. Why is only one batch affected?
During research into the present case, it was discovered that there was a deviation from the prescribed process in the quality assurance measures for this batch.
  3. Is the Micro Jul also affected?
No. Micro Jul, Mega Jul Sport, Jul2 and Giga Jul are not affected.
  4. Was there an accident?
No. The affected device was discovered during an inspection.
  5. If I cannot carry out the inspection myself or am unsure, can I send my Mega Jul to Edelrid for inspection?
Yes, if there is any uncertainty, the Mega Jul from batch 04/20 can be sent in for checking. Please contact our customer service [email protected].
  6. What do I do if I discover a defect in my Mega Jul?
Please contact our customer service by email: [email protected]. You will receive a return slip from us, which you can use to send the device to us free of charge for inspection. If your device is defective, we will replace it free of charge.
