Tokyo 2020 canceled: The Summer Olympics will not take place in 2020

The International Olympic Committee and the organizers are canceling the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. In doing so, they bow to the growing pressure.

Last Sunday, the IOC announced that a move had to be considered, a decision would be made in the next four weeks. Canada announced that no athletes would be sent to Tokyo if the IOC adhered to the appointment. Switzerland also requested that the games be postponed (LACRUX reported). The reason for this is the worldwide spread of the corona virus (Covid-19).

There has long been criticism of the IOC's lack of decision. The pressure has risen steadily in the past two days. The IOC now bowed to this pressure and announced:

“In the current situation and based on information from WHO, the IOC and the Prime Minister of Japan have decided to postpone the 2020 Summer Games. The games will no longer take place in the current year, but should not take place later than summer 2021. "
