World first: Beal launches 100% recycled climbing ropes Sunrise and Sunup

Many have dreamed of it, Beal has made it a reality: With the Sunrise 9.2 and the Sunup 8.4, Beal is launching the first climbing ropes made from 100% recycled material.

In recent years, reports have repeatedly surfaced about recycling efforts in connection with climbing rope production. Sometimes items of clothing were made from old climbing ropes, sometimes a new rope was produced partly from old rope scraps. There has never been a climbing rope made entirely from recycled material. Until now.

The French climbing rope manufacturer Beal, in collaboration with a polyamide manufacturer, has developed a method that allows ropes to be made from 100% recycled material. Made from used tires, this innovative yarn limits CO2-footprint of the rope significantly, in contrast to many recycled products, which often produce more CO2 produce as new material.

A particularly gentle chemical recycling process has made it possible to reduce the CO2-Reduce the material footprint by 78%.
