In summer, Mathias Seiler and his friends made a pilgrimage to the bouldering area of Rocklands, South Africa. We were alerted to the video by Mathias and talked to him about his Rocklands trip.
While many look forward to the warmer temperatures of the summer months or simply flee to the heights, many boulderers are drawn to South Africa. That's winter there. Mathias Seiler, Dominik Mueller, Noé Wetter, Raoul Waltenspühl and Sven Durrer also climbed the plane to the land of good wine, the braai (barbeque) and the kitschy sunsets.
Shosoloza summarily spotted
Mathias was already two years ago in the Boulder area with Clanwilliam and tried among other things Shosoloza (8a +). Despite several attempts, he had no chance. “On this year's trip, on the other hand, it worked in a few minutes and showed me what progress I had made,” says the 20-year-old proudly.
So far the hardest boulder: Riverbed in Magic Wood
Just under a year ago, Mathias proved that it can be even tougher when he won the 8b classic at Magic Wood Riverbed climbed. After a good ten sessions in Riverbed, Mathias was as close as never before to the ascent: “I slipped on the 5a exit plate and missed the passage by a hair's breadth. At the same time, however, I knew that it would work the next time I tried, ”says Mathias. So it did.
