Trifthütte badly damaged - operation from June 2021 at the earliest

On January 28, 2021, the Trifthütte was badly damaged by an avalanche. The Trifthütte cannot start winter operations and will remain closed until mid-June 2021.

During an inspection flight on January 30, 2021, the hut wardens Nicole and Artur Nauer discovered that the Trifthütte had been damaged by an avalanche (LACRUX reported). The exact extent was not known at the time. After an initial on-site inspection, it is now clear that the hut was severely damaged.

Experts determined that the solid construction from 1947 and the extension built in 2007 were badly damaged, the hut from 1906 was completely destroyed. Although provisional emergency measures could be taken, extensive construction work should not be possible until summer due to the high alpine conditions.

The Bern SAC section is currently clarifying with insurance companies and construction experts when the hut can start operating again, which measures are necessary and how much they cost.

The assumption that no people were harmed in the avalanche has since been confirmed as no missing person reports have been received.

Fortunately, the keeper of the nearby Windegghütte SAC, Adrienne Thommen, and the Naue family offer an alternative for ski tourers: During the ski tour season from March 29, 2021 to April 18, 2021, they look after the Windegghütte (1887 m.a.s.l.), which is usually is closed during the winter season. Registrations are possible immediately, either online at www.windegghuette.ch or by phone on 033 975 11 10.

Since the damage to the hut became known, the keepers of the Trifthütte received numerous offers of help.

The wave of solidarity affects us very much personally. We are extremely pleased to feel how many people feel connected to the Trifthütte. We are happy to take up the offers of help in the form of work assignments at the beginning of the summer and will contact you at the appropriate time. One thing is certain: as soon as possible, we will service the Trifthütte again.
