Aleksandra Miroslaw climbs to Olympic gold in 6.1 seconds | Speed climbing Olympics 2024

On the third day of speed competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the women's quarter-finals, semi-finals and final rounds took place. The favorite of today's competition, Aleksandra Miroslaw, secured Olympic gold ahead of China's Lijuan Deng and her compatriot Aleksandra Kalucka.

First, Poland's Aleksandra Miroslaw and Spain's Adriana Romero Perez faced each other on the 15-meter-high, five-degree overhanging speed climbing wall. While the Spaniard gave it her all, world record holder Miroslaw played it safe. Miroslaw climbed more slowly than ever before at these Summer Games and still won the duel.

In the third duel between the Chinese Lijuan Deng and the Indonesian Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, it couldn't have been closer. Deng won by just 6 thousandths of a second and moved into the semi-finals. Two Polish women were fourth. Aleksandra Kalucka started much earlier and faster than the favorite Aleksandra Miroslaw, but was overtaken by her compatriot during the course of the route.

In the small final for third place, Poland's Aleksandra Kalucka and Indonesia's Rajiah Sallsabillah duelled. After a confident start, Kalucka raced steadily up the wall, while Sallsabillah made a mistake, meaning Kalucka left the race as the bronze medalist.

Poland secured its first medal with Kalucka's run. Will Miroslaw win Poland's second medal in the grand final against China's Lijuan Deng? Both participants in the grand final know that they will win a medal - it's a question of silver or gold. Poland's Aleksandra Miroslaw left nothing to chance, climbed to the top of the wall without making any mistakes and in 6.10 seconds, winning Olympic gold by 8 hundredths of a second.
