Trifthütte damaged by avalanche - no more winter room

As the Bern section of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC writes on its website, the Trifthütte was damaged by an avalanche. Until further notice, no winter room and no shelter are available.

On Saturday morning, January 30th, 2021, the couple who waited for the hut to wait for the Trifthütte discovered that the hut had been damaged by an avalanche. The hut was not manned and it can be assumed that no one was in the winter area due to the delicate avalanche situation (level 5). Until further notice, no winter room and no shelter are available.

Damage suspected

Nicole and Artur Naue decided to check the hut because the communication with the building services was interrupted and they therefore suspected damage. According to the measured data, a collector sensor was destroyed on January 28 between 17:00 p.m. and 18:00 p.m. We assume that the avalanche came down at this point.

It is not yet clear when operations can be resumed.

As soon as the snow conditions permit, those responsible for the section will record the exact extent of the damage on site. Only then can it be estimated when the hut can start operating.
