Victory for Garnbret and Bombardi at the World Cup in Chamonix

Marcello Bombardi won an IFSC World Cup competition for the first time in Chamonix. In the women's race once again the overwhelmingly strong Slovenian Janja Garnbret won. The Swiss Anne-Sophie Koller, as in Villars, narrowly missed the finals by one place. Michelle Hulliger climbs on the 18. Rank.

In front of the assembled crowd, numerous top athletes ensured an exciting final at the second lead competition of the World Cup season in Chamonix, France last night. Like the qualification (22 tops), the final was characterized by fairly easy routes with many tops - much to the displeasure of the athletes. Why? The final route was so easy that many athletes reached the top. For the men, for example, time decided the victory.

Marcello Bombardi in four minutes to the gold medal

It was precisely the variable “time” that suited Marcello Bombardi. Together with three other athletes, he also made the final route to the diversion - just a lot faster. It took him four minutes and 16 seconds to climb through, while Keiichiro Korenaga climbed the final route in five minutes and 28 seconds. With his quick ascent, the Italian won his first IFSC World Cup.

Janja Garnbret without pump to the top

A similar picture emerged with women. Anak Verhoeven was the first to complete the final route. In the following interview she says: “Of course I'm happy that I made it to the top. At the same time, I'm frustrated because the route was way too easy. We athletes train hard and deserve more difficult final routes ”. Even the winner of the evening, the Slovenian Janja Garnbret, found the route too easy: "I didn't have a pump when I got to the chain."

Criticism of the route construction

Not only the athletes expressed their displeasure over the route builders. The commentators also criticized the route builders and joked as to whether they were already gone.
