Climber seriously injured after a fall in the Torbeccio climbing area

Yesterday, Sunday, there was an accident in the Torbeccio climbing area in the Maggia Valley. The climber involved was seriously injured.

Last Sunday, February 20, 2022, occurred at Torbeccio a serious accident. A climber fell from a height of around 15 meters without braking, as a person present reported to us. Apparently the accident happened while lowering the climber, when the end of the rope was reached by the belayer and through the backup device slipped.

The climber who was involved in the accident was flown by REGA to the Cantonal Hospital in Lugano with serious injuries.
