Drew Ruana opens 8C+ mega roof Boulder Bookkeeping

Drew Ruana crowns an extremely successful year with the first ascent of Bookkeeping (8C+) in Colorado. The strong American climbed numerous difficult boulders in 2022, including Distortion (8C +, FA) in Lincoln Cave, The Player (8C, FA) and Ice Knife sit (8C +).

Drew Ruana succeeds in Colorado the first ascent of bookkeeping. He rates the boulder through the gigantic 20-meter roof as 8C+. "The Nomad Cave houses some of the most impressive projects I've ever seen." And it offers the opportunity to connect three different, unique 8B+ and 8C lines, according to the 23-year-old.

Bookkeeping (8C+): Not the end of the road yet

When Drew Ruana was projecting a shorter section of the line at Nomad Cave last year, he fell out in the same place over a period of several weeks - around 15 times.

"It felt like the toughest strength-endurance climb I've ever attempted in the 8C range. And I just couldn't put them together."

Then this December he tried an 8B+ compression sequence at the end of the cave – but to no avail. So he decided to try the moves of Spidy and Off the Books further down the cave. "I decided to give it a try and see what happens. And somehow I just stuck to the handles."

«The whole line is far from finished, but I am excited about this milestone»

Drew Ruana

For Drew Ruana, it's moments like these that make climbing: "I'm in the zone and I have full control of the moment." In his eyes, bookkeeping is not the best line in terms of aesthetics. However, this does not spoil the climbing fun in the slightest.
