While she was unable to develop her potential at the World Championships in Bern, Laura Rogora excelled in Picos de Europa: The Italian became the third woman to conquer the difficulty level 8c with the onsight ascent of Ajo Crudo. She can also onsight climb the 8b+ line Los Lunnis.
In 2021, Janja Garnbret made climbing history when she achieved two onsight ascents with difficulty level 8c: Fish Eye and American Hustle. No climber had ever achieved this before her. In fall 2022, Chaehyun Seo achieved onsight in Siurana L'Antagonista (8c). Now the Italian professional climber is closing Laura Rogora on. The 22-year-old climbed the 8c route during a three-day team meeting in Picos de Europa Ajo Crudo as well as the 8b+ line The Lunnis onsight – a tremendous achievement.
New trio at the top
Being able to climb the most difficult routes onsight is a gift that only a few climbers have. Between 2006 and 2021, just under a dozen athletes managed an onsight ascent with a difficulty level of 8b+.
In November 2021, Janja Garnbret raised the onsight level to a new level with her ascents of Fish Eye (8c) and American Hustle (8c) in Oliana. In 2022, Chaehyun Seo joined with L'Antagonista (8c). Now the strong Italian Laura Rogora with Ajo Crudo (8c) is closing in and, together with the Slovenian and the Korean, is the spearhead when it comes to onsight ascents.
