Petzl recall: Batches of NOMIC and ERGONOMIC ice tools affected

French mountaineering equipment manufacturer Petzl is recalling NOMIC (U021AA00) and ERGONOMIC (U022AA00) ice axes from certain batches. Here you can find out if your product is affected and what you need to do if so.

Some batches of NOMIC and ERGONOMIC ice axes are susceptible to handle breakage. This can lead to falls, with the risk of serious or fatal injuries. The load-bearing capacity of these ice axes does not meet Petzl's quality standards, especially under intensive use in ice climbing and dry tooling. The breakage occurs without warning or any prior indications.

For these reasons, The use of the ice equipment affected by this recall must be stopped immediately..

Affected devices are those manufactured between December 2017 and June 2020. These may have the following serial numbers:

To check the number of your ice axe, you can use the following link from Petzl If your serial number is affected, you can contact Petzl customer service via this contact form; the manufacturer will then send you a new device after you have sent in your old one.
