On Saturday, the gifted climber and alpinist Jonas Hainz fell to his death on the Magerstein in the Antholz Valley. The 25-year-old son of the extreme mountaineer Christoph Hainz had recently attracted attention with the free solo ascent of the Moulin Rouge in the Croda Rossa.
The 25-year-old had an accident last weekend Jonas Hainz am lean rock in the Anterselva Valley. The experienced climber and alpinist was alone on the 3273 meter high mountain when, for unknown reasons, he fell several hundred meters down the south ridge.
The Antholz mountain rescue service assumes that the tragic accident happened on Saturday afternoon. The 25-year-old's family sounded the alarm when he failed to return home that evening. The rescuers could only recover the lifeless body of the young climber. Jonas Hainz, son of the well-known extreme mountaineer Christoph Hainz, was himself a member of the rescue team.
