Jessica Pilz is World Champion in Lead

Yesterday the first world champion of the climbing world championship was announced in Innsbruck. The Austrian Jessica Pilz secured the lead in a thrilling final. The final was the crowning glory of a perfect competition in which the Innsbruck native won every round. Silver went to the Slovenian Janja Garnbret, who also climbed to the top, but needed 11 seconds more. Kim Jain won bronze. Hannah Schubert was a strong 8th. Petra Klingler achieved the best placement for Switzerland with 13th place.

In front of more than 4000 spectators, 10 women's gold, silver and bronze were in the lead. Jessica Pilz went as penultimate starter in the final route. She showed a perfect performance, which ended only at the top. With that, her silver was safe. Janja Garnbret, which had also moved into the finals on intermediate rank 1, now had to climb to the top in less than 4:27 minutes. In the extremely demanding final section, she had difficulties that cost her decisive seconds. In the end, the clock stopped at 4:38 minutes for the Slovenian - that meant gold for Jessica Pilz. It was the perfect competition in which the Lower Austrian won every round. “That was the ideal case,” said Pilz happily afterwards. “I can't describe it at all. I was really happy when I let go and couldn't believe it. Usually I'm a bit slower than Janja, but that it turned out this way - unbelievable! I don't even realize what happened yet. I felt relatively safe on the route. I only took risks when I jumped at the top. I have to digest all of this now. "
