On Saturday, August 15th, a mountain accident occurred at the cathedral. An alpinist was killed.
Around 4.30:XNUMX a.m., two mountaineers were climbing the cathedral when they came across a lifeless person on the Festigletscher.
A rescue crew from Air-Zermatt moved out with an emergency doctor. The latter could only determine the death of the climber.
The climber was in the “Festijoch” area when, for reasons that are still unclear, he was at an altitude of around 3 m. ü. Sea - crashed in rocky terrain. At this point the alpinist was not roped.
The identity of the accident victim has not yet been conclusively clarified.
An investigation has been launched.
