Janja Garnbret is taking a break from competition until the World Cup in Innsbruck. At the Misja Pec climbing area in her native Slovenia, the exceptional athlete has now climbed two 8cs onsight – in just one day.
Only three women have managed to climb onsight at grade 8c: Laura Rogora, Chaehyun Seo and Janja GarnbretThe Slovenian was there in 2021 with her onsight ascent of Fish Eye in Oliana, the first female climber to achieve this. Since then, she has also onsighted American Hustle (8c) and Popolni mrk (8c) two more lines in this degree.
Now Garnbret has struck again: In the climbing area Misja Pec In her home country of Slovenia, the 26-year-old onsighted two 8c routes in one day: Osapska pošast L2 (8c) and Working Class Hero (8b+). The latter route has since been upgraded to 8c after several hold breakouts. These are the fourth and fifth onsight ascents of the Slovenian's career.
Janja Garnbret is currently reducing her competition appearances after countless successes in recent years, including two olympic Gold medals and several overall victories in the World Cup. This season, the Slovenian is only registered for three events: the Bouldering and Lead World Cup in Innsbruck End of June and her home Lead World Cup in Copper and the World Championships in Seoul, both of which take place in September.
Tired and happy after a day on the rocks. Next stop: Céüse!

In the meantime, Garnbret is concentrating entirely on her rock projects, where she recently made her first attempts in Finland Burden of Dreams (9A). In preparation for the lead events, she will first head to the French climbing paradise Céüse.
