At the beginning of the month, the Italian Stefano Ghisolfi managed the first ascent of the Erebor (9b / +) route in Eremo di San Paolo. In this video he tells the story behind the first ascent of the route, which he set up himself.
Stefano Ghisolfi is one of the strongest climbers in the world. In 2015 he climbed the first 9b of his career with Lapsus in Andonno. Then things went up steeply. More 9b routes followed like First Round First Minute, One slap, La Capella, Queen line and Stoking the Fire. In 2018 Stefano scored with Perfecto Mundo his first route with the difficulty level 9b +, followed by Change in Flatanger in September 2020.
First set up a route myself
Until recently climbed Stefano Ghisolfilike most climbers, already existing routes. That means he's never picked up a drill and set up a route.
However, that changed with the Corona pandemic. In spring 2020 Stefano set up the route with the support of Seve Scassa erebor in Eremo di San Paolo. The newly created line with its difficulty of 9b / + now became the most difficult route in Italy.
