Jessica Pilz is state champion in lead, bouldering and combined scoring

Last weekend, the state championships in the disciplines of bouldering, lead and combined scoring were awarded in Innsbruck. Jessica Pilz secured all three titles for the ladies. In the men's race, Jakob Schubert was, as expected, dominant, but was relegated to second place in Florian Klingler's bouldering discipline.

As part of the Austria Climbing Open 2019, a final of the Austrian State Championships in Olympic combination format was held for the first time. The premiere winners were Jessica Pilz (ÖAV Haag / Lower Austria) and Combined World Champion Jakob Schubert (ÖAV Innsbruck / TIR). The two Austrian Olympic hopes for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 also showed very strong performances on the fourth day of competition in a row.

High-tensioning bouldering finale

The men's final was a thrilling affair from the very first second. Elias Weiler (ÖAV Innsbruck) was the only one to make a difficult record and took the lead. The third boulder climbed only top favorite Jakob Schubert, Florian Klingler (ÖAV Innsbruck) and Nicolai Uznik (SV St Johann i R. / KTN). Klingler was thus a single zone attempt before Schubert and secured the title at the last Boulder with a flash.

"It was an incredible feeling to climb in front of this home crowd. You have always been full of fire. I did not expect it at the beginning, but it worked out somehow. "

Florian Klingler

The ladies had a surprise in the air when only Eva Hammelmüller (ÖAV Haag / Lower Austria) had made the first boulder. At the second boulder, however, the big favorite Jessica Pilz took the lead and did not hand them over.

Jessica Pilz and Jakob Schubert climb confidently to the victory of the combined classification

In the lead, Jakob Schubert climbed safely to the top and thus to victory.

+Having worked well in the lead, I am glad that it was almost perfect today in the combination. In the speed I would like to run under seven seconds, but it was crystal clear and I'm glad that such a good run was there. That was a good test today, with many things working well. Since I can take something back and also learn something. "

Jakob Schubert

In the women's race Sandra Lettner and Jessica Pilz won the victory. Pilz started as the penultimate in the route and presented with a effortless top. Sandra Lettner would have had to climb faster than Pilz to the top. However, she fell a few paces deeper and took silver. Bronze went to the only 16-year-old Tyrolean Julia Lotz (ÖAV Hohe Munde, TIR), who secured her second medal at the state championships 2019 with a fierce performance.

"I am very satisfied with my performance in Speed because I have again achieved a personal best. Bouldering has gone well too. I'm a bit disappointed with the uphill route because it was way too easy throughout. I would have liked a bigger challenge. "
