As Marketing Vice President at Black Diamond, she tirelessly pushed forward new developments. Under Maria's leadership, the brand turned to sport climbing (a bold decision, considering that Black Diamond specialized heavily in traditional climbing at the time).
Shortly thereafter, sport climbing swept the world, inviting people to try a style of climbing that was more athletic, less dangerous and therefore more accessible. The bouldering revolution was just beginning back then.
Her way of thinking was simple but effective - she constantly analyzed patterns, social developments and connections in a larger context. Based on these observations, she made decisions and recognized connections that were not immediately apparent to others.
Just as she gave space to the stronger climbers, Maria enjoyed the same respect when it came to her vision. Regardless of who was present, she treated everyone with respect while making them feel welcome.
She had a lasting impact on everyone who knew her and was always a role model that people wanted to emulate.
