Ondra during the 9a onsight attempt: final stop for grip breakout

Adam Ondra loves onsight climbing. This video shows him making a solid attempt to climb a 9a onsight - but it comes to an abrupt end because of a broken hold.

Drove in November 2023 Adam Ondra to Spain for a few days, including to the Montanejos climbing area. Within a few days he was climbing the most difficult sport climbing routes The Machinist (9a+/9b) and opened a multi-pitch route in the 8b+ range with Have a Vernich with Adam Ondra.

9a Second Go and 8c+/9a Onsight as a consolation

Ondra had no success attempting to onsight the route Monsters Parade (9a). After a rest point in a knee lock, the Czech's grip broke and inadvertently caused the attempt to end prematurely, as the video above shows.

The frustration was great, but as a consolation, Ondra got the red point in the second go. And during the same trip it was at least enough for an onsight ascent of an 8c+/9a. Not bad either, right?
