Adam Ondra on ethical dilemmas in climbing | Video interview

In an interview, the Czech climbing professional Adam Ondra talks about what he sees as the lack of debate regarding preclipping, about the interaction of knee pads, levels of difficulty and honesty, as well as about the use of Sika on the first ascent.

Adam Ondra is one of the greats in climbing and is accompanied by an entire camera team on many of his ascents. In the interview, the strong Czech explains what it's like for him, why he takes a relaxed view of content production and what the downsides of his social media presence are.

There are important ethical dilemmas that are rarely discussed and, in my opinion, these include the rigging of multiple quickdraws.

He also expresses his thoughts on ethical issues such as:

  • Red dot vs. pink dot and why there is hardly any distinction these days
  • Quick-draw slings for “safety reasons”
  • Use of knee pads and effects on difficulty levels
  • Chipping & Glueing and why it isn't talked about enough in the climbing community
