Swiss Climbing has defined the Olympic pool Tokyo 2018 after the evaluation of the World Cup results and the World Cup season 2020. Petra Klingler, Anne-Sophie Koller, Sascha Lehmann, Dimitri Vogt and Baptiste Ometz are specifically promoted and prepared for possible participation in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The pool started at the end of 2017 with nine athletes and has been reduced to five during the past year.
At last year's World Cup in Innsbruck came for the first time the Olympic combination format for the event. The results allowed to gain an overview of the international competition and the performance of the Swiss athletes. It also showed which nations, two years before their first Olympic appearance, had already dealt intensively with the new format and prepared accordingly.
The five athletes of the pool 2020
The confirmed for the Olympic pool Tokyo 2020 Swiss athletes showed that they can compete in the combined classification in international comparison. Last year's World Cup results in the combination of Petra Klingler and Sascha Lehmann would have even been enough for a direct qualification.
At these competitions, the athletes can qualify for Olympia 2020
The first selection option is offered at the World Championships in Tokyo, for which the five pool athletes are set. Seven women and men can qualify directly for Tokyo 2020 after the event, with each country receiving only two starting places each. A second chance is offered at the end of the year at a special combined event. The best 20 athletes of the Overall World Cup 2019 can participate in this competition. This means that the individual World Cup missions will increase in the next year and must also be cleverly planned tactically. Because it is important to achieve two good results in all three disciplines of speed, lead and bouldering. Top results will be heavy due to the multiplication of ranks.
Training takes place at the National Performance Center in Biel

For the first time, 2020 sports climbing is part of the official program of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. How the Olympic way continues after that and whether climbing as a sport is definitely recorded, is still unclear. Assuming that sport climbing is confirmed as an Olympic sport after Tokyo 2020 and then is fixed in the program, a group of athletes is already being set up for this long-term goal.
Training of the 2024 pool has begun
In January 2019 6 athletes and 5 athletes started training in the Olympic pool Paris 2024. The pool is deliberately kept large. The goal is to gain experience and to see how the young climbers develop. The team is led by junior national coach Loïc Gaidioz. In addition to the regular training sessions with the entire elite and junior national team and the training at the regional bases, the Olympic pool 2024 meets once or twice a month.
