High-flyer Martina Demmel climbs 9a in the fifth attempt

The German climber Martina Demmel climbs into the club of 9a climbers: A few days ago she scored Joe Cita in Oliana.

We hardly keep up with the editing of news reports. The young German climber scores difficult routes within a very short time and causes a stir in the climbing scene. She started climbing just four years ago and is already climbing her first 9a route. Incredible.

I'm still looking for the right words to describe what happened yesterday.

Martina Demmel

It is no wonder that the young climber is amazed at her own performance, because she only began climbing in 2017. The 19-year-old first attracted attention with her route record last year. No less than 201 routes in the eighth French grade climbed Martina, including 11x 8c, 21x 8b +, 43x 8b, 55x 8a + and 71x 8a.

It started the current year no less steep. She climbed around 10 days ago Humildes pa Casa (8b +) onsight and scored on the same day Joe Blue (8c +).

Can someone shake me out of this endless dream that is too good to be true?

Martina Demmel

With their latest success, the red point ascent of Joe Cita, Martina is consistently continuing her successful course and joins the (non-exhaustive) list of names that sound like Josune Bereciartu, Margo Hayes, Laura Rogora or Babsi Zangerl. They all climbed already on the ninth French grade.

It should be emphasized in the case of Martina Demmelthat she could climb through Joe Cita (9a) in only the fifth attempt.
