You can implement these training tips from Erin McNeice in your next bouldering session

Erin McNeice has only been climbing in the IFSC youth competitions for a few years now – since then, she's not only made it to the Olympics in Paris, but also to the top of the World Cup in bouldering and lead climbing. In this new video, the young Brit shares her training tips..

Even before her impressively rapid rise in the competition scene, Erin McNeice the nickname «McBeast» missed. And rightly so: The young athlete from Kent, England, has been climbing since she was five years old and became Great Britain's youngest member of the national team in 2022 at just 17 years old.

Since then, the Briton has been on a steady upward trend: in 2022 and 2023 she won the British national title in Lead, in 2024 she finished fifth in the Olympic Games in Paris, in 2025 the first victories in the Lead World Cup followed – and at the weekend the first bouldering gold medal in Bern.

A new video from shows the work behind her success and how Erin McNeice gets the most out of her training. Lattice training.

Three exercises for every bouldering session

For professional climbers like McNeice, getting strong involves not only systematic strength training, but also the targeted improvement of certain movements and types of grips on the wall.

In the video, Erin McNeice shows which exercises she uses to perfect important bouldering techniques:

  • Turns: Keep control & find the perfect timing
  • Sloper: Body position beats finger strength
  • 3 Wins: Learn and recall complex movements

These three training tips have accompanied Erin McNeice since her first youth competitions – and still do so in preparation for international IFSC-Events. The best part: You can put them into practice during your next session at the bouldering gym.
